This delicious and healthy tea is the perfect thing to make after being out shoveling (or anytime really).  Turmeric has long been used in Chinese medicine, and recently is has been shown that curcumin, a component of turmeric, is strongly anti-inflammatory.  So if you are feeling a little achy and cold after shoveling snow, make up this wonderful warming and healthful tea.  Each element of the tea has wonderful healing properties that work together to make an ideal and delicious beverage.

Acupuncture for Back PainTurmeric (jiang huang): acrid, bitter, warm. Invigorates Blood, pain and swelling due to trauma, promotes movement of Qi and alleviates pain.*
Black Pepper: hot and pungent, Warms digestion, dispels internal cold, antidote to food poisoning.*
Ginger (sheng jiang): warm and pungent.  Benefits the Lungs and Stomach. *
Honey: neutral/warm, sweet.  Nourish Yin, tonifies weakness, relieves spasm, harmonizes & strengthens the Spleen. *
Cinnamon (rou gui): hot, pungent, sweet.  Strengthens ST, warms and coldness in the body, stops pain, warms the Kidneys *

  • 2 cups of almond milk – for a more creamy tea use 1 cup coconut milk and one cup water
  • 1 teaspoon Turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon raw honey or more to taste
  • Pinch of fresh ground black pepper (increases absorption of the turmeric)
  • ¼ inch fresh ginger, peeled and grated on a zester
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon (optional)
  1. Pour all ingredients into a small sauce pan and heat for 3-5 minutes over medium heat until hot but not boiling.  Whisk while heating.
  2. Drink immediately, Enjoy!

Serves two.
